Why is there free hosting but no free offshore hosting?

If you are a website owner, then you know that choosing the right hosting is extremely important. In the absence of hosting, your website will only be available offline. And what’s the purpose of a website if it cannot be found by users? Next, we will discuss the differences in terms of hosting types so that you can make an informed decision.

Why is there free hosting?

Few things are free in this world, and they should truly be appreciated as the gems they are when found. However, when something is offered for free, it’s usually part of a marketing strategy. Think of a design company who is handing out free leather bracelets. They are either trying to become more renowned, or they will tax you a lot more for shipping. That is because they still have to make a profit, even if they give out free stuff.

The same goes for hosting. When a company is offering free hosting, they are usually trying to get their name on everyone’s lips. This offer can be available for a shorter period of time or for a longer, indefinite time-frame. In the case of long-term free hosting, the company will usually place ads on your website. There are also some cases when there will be no ads. However, you will receive frequent emails trying to up-sell you a superior hosting plan. Some companies can also sell your data to third parties so you risk receiving more spam in your inbox.

Why is there no free offshore hosting?

Offshore hosting is considered superior for a number of reasons. First of all, it provides excellent privacy as no one in your area or country will be able to visit your physical server location. Secondly, you will be shielded from your country’s laws and regulations. For instance, if your country does not allow hosting of copyrighted materials on a server, yet Taiwan allows it, having your offshore hosting in Taiwan means that you won’t have to respond to your local authorities by any means.

Offshore hosting is also more secure in front of attackers, since the servers benefit from different protection methods which are not typically available in local hosting. Therefore, hackers will have a truly hard time penetrating your website. Finally, there is more bandwidth at your disposal, based on the plan that you choose.

With all these benefits in mind, it’s quite easy to see why no one is offering free offshore hosting. Advanced servers on faraway countries are not cheap to buy and maintain. Plus, hosting companies need to make a profit as well; otherwise they wouldn’t be in business anymore.
